Configuring OWA in Exchange 2003.... Need HELP!
Hey Guys and Gals, Finaly got the mail server working nicely, Im have a few issues getting started in setting up OWA? Do I need to create an A-Record (mail.servername.com) on my godaddy hosted domain, and point that to my public IPI have NAT'ed to my mail server? How do I go about configuring IIS to use (mail.servername.com) as the URL my users will type into their browser to access OWA? Do I need to forward (open) any other ports to my mail serveron my firewall other than Port 25 (smtp) ? Sorry for such the newbie questions, as this is my 1st exchange server to totally do by myself? Thanks for the help! -Jon

Jon, I would create an 'A' record that points to your public IP address such mail.yourdomain.com, then make sure you have TCP port 25 opened for inbound SMTP mail and port 80 or 443 for inbound HTTPS. If you are going to do HTTPS / SSL, you need a certificate for your server. You can get a fairly cheap certificate from places like GoDaddy. IIS should automatically be configured when you install an Exchange 2003 server so that users can access it via http://mail.yourdomain.com/exchange.

Hi, Before going on, I would like to confirm whether the name of the mail server has the same as the name of the URL that you are ready to use. If it is identical, please perform the steps as below: 1. Start IIS Manager 2. Right click on the "Default Web Site" and choose "Properties". 3. Click on the "Home Directory" tab. 4. Change the first option to "A redirection to a URL". 5. Enter "/exchange" in to the box (minus quotes) 6. Change the entry below to "A directory below URL entered". 7. Click Apply/OK. Then please create a A record to point the IP address of the mail server. After that, please test this issue. If the name is different, such as the name of the mail server is mail.server.com. The URL of the OWA is example.server.com, then we need to deploy OWA as the below steps: Please first add another IP address for the mail server. This is due to each virtual server must be bound to a unique IP address. Open ESM, expand the Organization, expand the Servers, expand Protocols, expand HTTP, right click HTTP, click New, click HTTP Virtual Server, input the name as example.server.com, select the new IP address, then click OK. Subsequently, right click example.server.com, click New, click Virtual Directory, input the name as Exchange, click OK. Finally, create a A record example.server.com to point to the new address of the mail server. After that, please test this issue. Thanks Allen
