Configuring Exchange to receive emails for ALL domains
Dear All, We have a developer who has made an application that will send an email to the users for ex. gmail or yahoo.. The problem is that in his code he tries to connect to our exchange via telnet SMTP and he does the following: Mail from: abc@ourdomain.com RCPT to: xyz@gmail.com and receives an error Cannot Relay the message. and its because our exchange can only recieve the emails destined for 'ourdomain' He told me that before he was hosting his email services to an ISP and he used that exchange SMTP address and able to relay the messages. Is there a way we can configure our exchange to receive emails destined for any domain, like something with accepted domains ? will it create a problem later on like spams etc ? Looking forward for a quick reply.. Regards, NSMCP,MCTS(Vista),MCSA(Messaging)

Hello Vaneed, Thre are two ways to do it. 1. You can send authentication credentials to the Exchange server. This is not a good idea because the credentials would be embedded in your code. I do not recommend this. 2. Ask your Exchange server to relay for whatever IP address your applications's PC has. For example, if your application's pc or server is 192.168.0.100, go to Exchange system manager, Server->ServerName->Protocols->SMTP->DefaultSMTPServer-> RightClick -> Properties -> Access Tab-> Relay Button-> Add The Application Server's IP address to the Relay List. If step 2 above does not fix it, check that your SMTP connector address space has * or the name of the domain you want to send to. Hi Naveed, As you said , Email coming from application would go for any domain. You have to create one receive connector in HUB transoport server for mail relay. Seclect permission group anonymous and Exchange server in permission group TAB on receive connector. Allowing application servers to relay off Exchange Server 2007:: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/12/28/432013.aspxAnil

Thank you for all sharing! For exchange 2003 you could add the IP address to Relay function. For exchange 2007 you could create a new SMTP receive connector. Have you got a answer for your question? I'm looking forward to your reply. Thanks.Your expertise never fails to impress :)

Thankyou all for replying, We have Exchange 2007, and the application is running JAVA API's...I will try to Add the IP of the application (in the process of getting the IP) if that wont work, I will create a new SMTP connector. Falcon ITS I have * in the connector but the problems comes when relaying the message from Telnet SMTP. Regards,MCP,MCTS(Vista),MCSA(Messaging)

Did you add the IP address of the machine where the application is located to the relay function? MiguelMiguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase Sharepoint Site

YES, I have entered the IP address of the application server and even added my computer IP but no luck. It wont relay..We are using Exchange 2007, I added the IP address on the default receive connector>>Networks>>Use these Local IPs to receive emails>>add>> ip address of application server. In the permission tab, all checkec except for Partners, in the authentication tab, all checked except for Externally Secured. I created a new receive connector but no luck. I am looking for urgent help here. Thanks Regards,MCP,MCTS(Vista),MCSA(Messaging)
