Compare two mailboxes
Is there a way to compare two different mailboxes to see the differences? We need to compare a current mailbox with a restored version of the same mailbox. We a looking to find any differences between the two mailboxes without literally having to open them up side by side and compare each message. Thanks.

What are you looking to compare and what version of Exchange?

We want to compare the two to see if messages were deleted out of the mailbox after a certain date. So compare the restored version to the current version folder by folder to find the differences like what messages exist in "Inbox" in the restored version compared to what messages exist in "Inbox" in the current version so that we can transfer messages to the current version to make it match the restored version but still continue to be the "current" version. We are using Exchange 2007.

So are you just trying to restore any missing items from the restored mailbox that do not exist in the production mailbox?Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Not necessarily. We are trying to compare the differences between two points in time in the mailboxes. We don't want to merge them.

Lucid8 makes a product called DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp that can de-duplicate items across mailboxes and sources as well as export mailbox data from offline EDB files, recover data to the live store etc but it does not spit out the differences between two sources like you are looking for. I suppose we could do that easily enough but it hasn't been asked for before and either way its not available today. Basically you want to do a DIFF between two sources so I looked on Google and there is a product called Outlook PSTDiff http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=hts&oq=&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_en&q=Outlook+PstDiff out there that says it will let you compare the differences between two PST files but have no idea of its viability so download and test carefully eh? I mean I have never heard of the product nor person so just be careful. If this works that I would suggest you export the data from the offline backup mailbox as well as the current mailbox to PST and then use the tool. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
