Combining conversations in Outlook 2010

Hi there,

Firstly apologies if this is not the correct form, (since it is more a user issue than a developer one).

Background

  • I have rules setup to move e-mails from my in-box to a separate folder in a different pst file.
  • The files from certain e-mail addresses are move to a project folder.
  • Depending on the mail content I then manually shift them to specific sub folders of the project folder.

Here is the issue

When I move a new e-mail to the sub folder it does not recognise it as the same conversation as e-mails already present, even though the subject is exactly the same.

Setup

  • Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.7015.1000 (32 bit)

Thanks for your help and time,

Vincent.

Hi Eugene,

Thanks for your reply.

I have already grouped by conversation and what I have is 2 sets of conversations with the same name

Thanks,

Vince.

Hi Alexey,

I provided the explanation how Outlook groups conversations. The steps above were to check the Conversation ID, not how to combine messages. Either I don't know an easy method to change the Conversation ID, or to combine different messages if the Conversation IDs are different.

Hi Vincent,

We can't change the Conversation ID with MFCMAPI. I provided the steps to check the Conversation IDs, if they are not the same, Outlook was doing the right thing that the messages were not grouped as a conversation.

An easier way, to create another .pst file in the Outlook profile, copy the messages from the sub folder to that .pst file, then you can find them in MFCMAPI easily.

Hi Melon and Alexey,

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, this is is not just a once off incident.

The problem is arising I think because the rules I have set up are moving the incoming files to a project folder and I am further moving them to specific sup-project folders.

Outlook is not identifying that the messages are of the same conversation as the existing conversation messages and starting a new conversation.

Since Outlook is not identifying this and I cannot change it, it seems like I will just have to live with it.

Thanks for the input,

Vince.
