Click Help, Office Configures

Hi,

If you start the Program as Administrator, does the issue occur?

To help me understand the issue better, please provide some screenshots of the issue, like the configuration process. To protect your private information, please send the images to our email address:

Please add the url of this thread in the email for easy tracking.

I guess I wasn't clear enough.  The problem occurs whether or not I start the Office program as administrator.  When not starting it as administrator, I get a series of maybe a dozen UAC prompts.

There's nothing to show you except the configuring process and then a reboot prompt at the end.

Office Professional Plus 2013, 64-bit, running on Windows 8.1

When I click Help (question mark), Excel, Word and Excel go into a configuration process, with multiple UACs if I don't start the program as administrator, resulting in a prompt to reboot.  It does this every time.  Am I relegated to never obtaining

Hi,

What is the Program Name in the UAC prompt? Is it an Office Program name like Word, Excel, or another program?

Please try repairing Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features to check the result.

It is "Microsoft Office" in the UAC prompt.  Repeatedly.

Hi,

Try to start Office programs in Safe Mode(Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Office program to start it in safe mode), check if the problem persists.

If there is no such issue when Programs are in Safe Mode, possibly there are some add-ins that caused the issue, disable the suspicious ones to verify which one caused the problem.

I've also noticed that many users had met the similar issues, like in this thread below:

Check if the solution from mogulman1 helps in your scenario:

"secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"

The problem only occurs when I click Help (the question mark icon).

Thanks anyway.

The secedit fix didn't do anything.  When I click Help (question mark) in Outlook, I still get the Configuring process with multiple UACs.  Completing it and rebooting doesn't make it go away, the next time I click Help it comes back.

Hi,

Please run Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool to check what issues you can find of the Office installation:

If still nothing helpful is found, I suggest you try re-installing Office to check whether this makes a difference.

The tool found nothing relevant to the issue.

Reinstalling Office isn't a path I want to pursue.
