Clean deployment of Exchange 2007 internally with a SendMail gateway to the internet
Folks, looking for some guidance here. Intention - a clean deployment of an MS Exchange 2007 server on an AD domain that right now uses only SendMail on a Windows OS boxfor e-mail. Domain also has a test Domino installation, but that needs to be taken out completely. Goal - Having the Exchange server used by all internal clients, with all external incoming and outgoing mail to be routed through the SendMail box, which will act as a gateway to the outside world. I have done this previously with an Exchange 2003 installation, but I have not had experience with 2007 yet. Also, I didn't do the 2003 installation alone, and, while I do have some notes, I don't want to rely solely on those. Question - Can anyone suggest a deployment guide, or maybe someone's published instructions/notes, on how to go about setting this up, step-by-step? I'd really hate to go by trial and error here, and I have not been having much luck searching the web for something like this. Greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Hi, That sounds very plausible. Effectively as you say you are using the Sendmail box as the SMTP gateway to the Internet. So, deploy Exchange as normal, really there is tons out there about that, but I would start with the help file. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=555F5974-9258-475A-B150-0399B133FEDE&displaylang=en Also look at the deployment guide: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6BD13B0C-88B4-4DEB-B55D-7D70916C660C&displaylang=en The main things you need to do are allow anonymous connections on your default receive connector and then create an Send Connector to route outbound mail to the SMTP * domain to the SendMail box. Infomation on that can be found at the msexchangeteam site: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/17/431555.aspx Hope this helps Cheers Nathan
