Circular logging query
Hello
I am performing some mailbox moves later, in Exchange 2007 SP2, and I need to enable circular logging to prevent transaction logs maxing the drive.
I understand I need to dismount the store before I enable this option, but is there a way to do this without dismounting?
Does anyone know WHY I need to dismount the store for this to take effect? What's the actual process that needs to take place before circular logging starts?

No.

So the logging mechanism can change strategy and clear the unnecessary
log files from the storage group.

The database is brought into a stable condition and the unnecessary
log files are removed.
Why is a 30 second interruption a problem if you're doing this in a
scheduled maintenance window?

Hi,
You should understand when you dismount the database, the transaction logs will be written into the database and database would be mark as constant. Transaction
log could be clearing and enable as circular.

Thanks everyone for their responses.
Just one final question, let's say I enabled CL on this SG, completed the mailbox move, then disabled it again.
Is there any way to historically track when and for how long circular logging was enabled? For instance a few days later? Anything that would show via powershell?
