Checks prior to mailbox deletion

Hello,

There are a number of mailboxes within our organisation that can be removed from Exchange. At present, mailbox databases are backed up each evening.

For the selected mailboxes, we will be keeping the AD user objects, it's just their mailboxes that we're trashing.

If for any reason a mailbox needs to be recovered following this, will it be possible to restore/reattach mailbox data from a backup?

Many thanks.

Hi MR,

Thank you for your question.

We could restore mailbox data from a backup. If we use Window Backup to backup our Exchange database, we could refer to the following steps:

  1.        Create a test lab;
  2.        Restore database which a mailbox is existed
  3.        Connect to this mailbox with AD account
  4.        Then we could see former mails
  5.        If we want to import into current mailbox, we could export the mailbox in test lab,

If we use other backup tool, we could contact them to help you.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Great info from Jim and if your open to 3rd party utilities check out our DigiScope product as it allows you to open any of the offline backups of the EDB for review, export, search, restore, migration and it doesn't rely on AD, i.e. you can install on a 64 bit OS completely disconnected from Exchange and you can get full access to all info
