Chaning administrator password for Exchange 2007 on cluster
I want to know the exact steps to follow for changing my domain administrator password without effecting my email services. My domain has Exchange 2007 installed with mailbox server installed on two cluster nodes with mailbox storage, separate server installed with hub & transport role. I want to know how to change the administrator password as Exchange 2007 servers and the cluster service all are using the same account. Shall i just reset the password in AD and also change the password in the cluster service account ?

Hi,If the cluster service account is using the administrator account (which is not best practice). You just need to change the admin password and the change the password in the services mmc. You will also have to restart the cluster service in order for the change to take effect.Leif

HI,Leif is right. Microsoft doesn't recommend using Administrator password for Cluster services. Base on my knowledge if you change password which also using for cluster services in Active Directory, you must change password for Cluster services as well.Consider below conditions Requirements must be met to change password======================================= Mixed clusters with Windows 2000 are not supported; All nodes must be running Windows Server 2003 or later. All nodes must be using the same domain account for the Cluster service. All nodes must be online or in a paused state. The update mechanism is not transactional; If the password change is not completed on all nodes, there may be a partial downtime in getting the passwords updated. You must be logged on to an account that has domain access to change the Cluster service account password on the domain controller. You must have local administrator rights to each node to change the Local Service account passwords. This account must also have the ability to traverse directories in the cluster domain. (Note: This privilege is given to every user in the domain by default.) This article applies only to the changing of the Cluster service account. If other services are running under the same Cluster service account, you have to change them manually. Procedure for change password==========================1)Change the password for cluster service account in the Active directory.2) Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.3) In the Services (Local) list, double-click Cluster Service4) Clicks the Log On tab and then type the Cluster service account in the account box by using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format. For example, type an account name that is similar to the following: Contoso\ CLustersrv5) Type the correct account password in the Password box and in the Confirm password box, and then click OK.Note:-You must do these Procedure on every node in clusterCommand line switch=================cluster /cluster:EXCH2007/changepassword:NEWpassword,OLDpasswordPlease read below Microsoft article for future information======================================How to change the Cluster service account passwordRegards Chinthaka
