Changing the default meeting time in Outlook 2010 to 50 minutes
Is there a way to change the default time for a meeting to 50 minutes.  I can go to Calendar, View, View Settings, Other Settings, and change to 15, 30 or 60 minutes.  What about 50?  Any ideas or suggestion?  Thanks

Hi,

I think you have to choose another time scale on your calendar. Because Outlooks tries to match the timescale for new meeting requests. It is only possible to choose 30min or 60 min.

In order to change the timescale you will find a description here:

No, you can't change the default to 50 minutes. You can change the time scale to one of the predefined times so that when you open new appointment forms, it may use that scale (it depends on how you open the new meeting form whether you use 30 min or the current time scale setting.) But 50 minutes is not one of the options.

I am guessing the person making this request is a psychotherapist, as am I. Our appointments are typically 45-50 minutes long and for those who don't take breaks between appointments, the ability to have that be the normal appointment time would be extremely helpful.

I totally agree - this would be most helpful!

Even in normal office environment people usually forget to plan for time in-between meetings. So a lot of calendars look like tetris.
Result: Everyone is rushing from one meeting room to the next being stressed and late.

At the end of the day in 95% of the cases what was achieved in 60 mins. could have been said in 50 mins as well.

There are ways to do a workaround using a macro. Google for "TechnicLee Setting a default appointment length"

But how can we roll that out in our whole organization?

Adaptability in standard appointment length should really be a outlook standard!

In Outlook there is as the other answers point out to, no way to change the default time for a meeting. It is possible through form changes and vba to give more options, but it is not pretty and not easy.

Changing the time scale in Outlook gives all sorts of nasty issues many other places.

However there is an alternative:

It is a small application / add-in that changes the default meeting lengths to a fully custom setting. It can be easily deployed in an enterprise setting, and it is very easy to use. It allows for two custom travel times to be subtracted from meeting lengths. I.e. for short meetings you can remove 4 minutes in the end and for longer meetings you can remove 10 minutes in the end.

Full disclosure: I made it.
