Changing path of ExchangeOAB Folder
Dear Team I have two Mailbox in Cluster (A/P). We are using MS Exchange server 2007 Ent. Couple of years back It was configured to use M drive as Database store. Here M drive is cluster volume from SAN. Due to some space issues we tried to Migrate all data in New cluster volume [n drive]. Each and every thing is shifted to new SAN volume on cluster but there is one folder called ExchangeOAB inside M:\SG1Data\ExchangeOAB. Some values like 56baceeb-7f74-4e5b-89ce-19dcb19be7c8 are inside ExchangeOAB folder. I did not get any link/way to move this folder and data from M drive to N drive. We are using CAS-HT on diffrent servers. Just to add Same content is reflecting in IIS inside OABDistribution and OAB virtual directory. I have some queries. 1. Is this folder responsible for Offline Address Book and GAL? 2. How to change the path of this folder (ExchangeOAB) from M drive to N drive so that I can delete M drive? Please help me as soon as possible. Regards Suman B. Singh

Answer: 1: Yes 2: You can change it but let me tell you the file is very small, i never saw that people had to move this folder due to the space issue. Any ways here the article of Dave Goldman http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/archive/2010/02/06/how-to-change-the-temp-location-for-the-oab-generation-process-on-exchange-2007-sp2-and-exchange-2010.aspx Cheers, Gulab | MCITP: Exchange 2010 | MCITP: Exchange 2007 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah | Blog: www.ExchangeRanger.blogspot.com

Hi Gulab Nice to see ur promt reply. U are right. We are not worry due to space of OAB folder but I need to make that drive free. Its a approx 200 GB drive and we would like to utilize it as rest of EDBs are shifted to other N drive. I went through that Article and I understand that its requires some Registry changes in Servers. I'm not clear about below mentioned things. 1. Is this a entry for both Mailbox Servers? 2. Why its mentioned temp. I want a permanent fix/solution. 3. What is the registry path for this key? Im sorry but document/article is not clear ur help will be appreciate.Regards Suman B. Singh

FYI...that document is written by Father of OAB him self :) 1. Is this a entry for both Mailbox Servers? First the OAB gets generated on MBX Server than the LZX files get replicated or moved to CAS server (which is done by MS Exchange File Distribution Service) 2. Why its mentioned temp. I want a permanent fix/solution. That articles Temp can be your Permanent, not a problem. 3. What is the registry path for this key? The Registry will be on the server in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeSystemAttendant\OALGEN_REG_V4_ALT_TEMP_FILES_LOCATION You should see that key under SystemAttendant. Sorry i am rebuilding my LAB's hence can't give you the proper location. By the way what is the size of that OAB GUID folder? LOL I got a key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\msgserver01] "OabDropFolderLocation"="M:\\SG1Data" Simply changed the path of OabDropFolderLocation=N:\NewLocation and New ExchnageOAB folder is created and one GUID enabled value is also generated. I hope it will work. Regards Suman B. Singh
