Changing Root Mailbox/Store Name of Outlook User to Reflect Default Address

We recently modified our address book policy to include an extra SMTP address and set the users reply address to this newly created SMTP address. In my Outlook view pre-address book change I would see myemail@abc.com.au as the root. I then added @def.com.au as a new SMTP address and made this the default address. My Outlook continues to show myemail@abc.com.au rather than myemail@def.com.au.

I have deleted and recreated my OST file and ran the repair option in Account Settings. I managed to change the name manually using the MAPI tool but unless there is a neat way of doing this for 250 users it's not something that I will bother doing.

Any other ideas?

Hi,

From your description, I would like to verify if OWA has this issue. If yes, you need to update the email address policy manually using Update-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet. If no, the issue is related to Outlook side, you need to create a new profile for troubleshooting.

For your reference:

Hope this can be helpful to you.

Hi Amy, thanks for your response.

It appears it is related to Outlook because the address book has updated.

It's only a minor problem because users get confused when they see user@abc.com.au instead of user@def.com.au. I have to keep reassuring them that email is sent from @def.com.au.

Hi Dennis,

I noticed that issue, too ; it seems the description i set when you created the profile, and afterwards it does not update it if you do not change the Account Description on the local Outlook.

So afaik you had two choices:

--> remove the old profile, create a new profile so the description is updated, too

--> update the description property of your Outlook clients mail account

Based on my knowledge there is no other way to get that.

Regards,
Martin

The only way I can get this to work is by removing and re-creating the user's Windows profile. Updating the description property in Outlook and/or removing the Outlook profile did not work for me. Tested with Windows 8.1 and Outlook 2010.
