Changing KMS key for Visio 2010 does not udpate Add/Remove programs
Hi,
We have recently rolled out Visio 2010 Premium to around 100 users, and now we need to downgrade them to Visio Standard to save money. We have an Office 2010 KMS server which has activated all the copies of Visio fine. I have used the VAMT 2.0
to change the KMS key to downgrade the client from Premium to Standard and this works fine however when you look in Add/remove programs it still shows as Premium even though in Visio is shows as Standard. This is a problem because we use SCCM to report
what software people have. Is this a bug in the product or am I missing something out?

I hadn't noticed this so far, when using the OCT to apply a down-level product key, at initial installation of Visio.
It may be an artefact of installing Premium, then downgrading to Pro or Std.
Have you observed what happens if you do a fresh install with downlevel key?
When you say you use ConfigMgr for reporting software, what method are you using? AI reports? Metering ? ARP reporting?

If you do a fresh install, with the downgraded key then Add/Remove programs does show the correct version - it appears to only happen if you downgrade a Premium version down to Professional or Standard. I was hoping to use VAMT to downgrade everyone
but now it seems I may have to manually uninstall and then re-install the correct version.
In regards to SCCM, we use the resource explorer to report back what is installed on a machine using Add/Remove programs and also use that report to see how many copies of Visio, Project etc we have out there on the estate for Microsoft true-up purposes.
Is there a better report we could use?

I know this is a bit late, but there is no need to uninstall/reinstall. You only need to enter the KMS Standard Client key locally on the machine under the program's "Help -> Change Product Key" link.
This will run a short setup sequence that will install the Standard key and update Add/Remove Programs.
The VAMT will successfully downgrade the program, but will not modify the Add/Remove Programs Display Name which is what gets collected by the SCCM Hardware Inventory.

Anyone have a fix for this? We use SCCM to determine our licensing count and its based on Add/Remove programs. If this doesn't work, then we are really lost.

We downgraded from Premium to Professional installs and SCCM reports through Displayname as you noticed. So what we did was a script that first ran through to enter in the new key using cscript.exe and then it ran a registry edit to modify the reg
entry related to the Add/Remove programs Display name as such. The below entry can be copied and pasted into a text document and rename the extension to ".reg" and then just run the command "regedit /s "Namechange.reg"

By default the client inventory exist in database for 90 days. You can change the inactive, or to schedule a immediate task to delete the one day aged taks to delete the current database, after that, the new client inventory will show you the current application
information.
