Change in Exchange Alias between 2003 and 2007
Hi We are running Exchange 2003 and have started with Exchange 2007. In 2003, when we created a new user via ADUC, the Exchange Alias was along the lines of jbudden With Exchange 2007, when we create new mailboxes in the EMC, the Alias is along the lines of joe.budden Is this something that has been noticed? Is it something we should be wary of I wonder?

Hi Joe, This is common and default setting, While we migrate from Exchange 2003 to 2007. So we dont have to worry about it. The reason is, exchange 2007 uses EAP ( Email Address policies ) to stamp the email address for exchange 2007 mailboxes. The Default EAP format is First name.Last name , but if you wanna change it you may try this steps Plan: 1. Open Exchange Mananagement Console 2. Navigate to Organization configuration -> Hub Server -> Email address policy tab 3. Right click on "Default policy" and try to edit. 4. You will get Editing wizard, Click Next twice. Now you will be at E-mail Addresses 5. High light the existing SMTP Format and Edit it. 6. In the SMTP E-mail address box change the First name.Last name to First name initial.Last name 7. Apply the Policy and Finish it Note: In case you get error while editing EAP , Goto Exchange management shell and run the following command. Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllRecipients Ref to: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-email-address-policies.html http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/01/11/432158.aspx All the best :) Sathish Kumar Elango, MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging, http://msexchangehelp.wordpress.com

Thanks ...The weird thing is in Exchange 2003, our the email addresses were created in the format joe.budden@domain.com, but the Alias in the format jbudden (same as the the pre-2000 login name).I'd like to continue that to Exchange 2007. At the moment, email addresses are being created in joe.budden@domain.com - but the Alias is also joe.budden format. We'd like email addresses to be joe.budden@domain.com and Aliases to be jbudden. Do you know how to do this? Thanks!

Hi Joe, The User Alias is an Active directory attribute which will be manually created while creating new user acccount. So make sure Jbudden is typed manually while creating mailbox from Exchange management console. To change the Email address stamping format use the same plan that i have already gave you. Plan: 1. Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllRecipients Ref to: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-email-address-policies.html http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/01/11/432158.aspx Thank you :) Sathish Kumar Elango | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging |http://msexchangehelp.wordpress.com
