Change default address book view
Hi One of our customers wishes to synchronize (using MIIS) users between themselves and their parent company in order to be able to send emails between each system (parent is Exchange 2007, local is 2003). The plan is to create new seperate address lists for the local users and the parent user Contacts. Is there a way to set users default address book in Outlook (with a GPO or similar) so that the default can bethe newly createdlocal addresslist rather than the Default GAL, since the GAL will now have the extra 20,000 contacts listed? I found the following link but was wondering if there was a Microsoft recommended way of doing this: http://explodingcoder.com/cms/content/programmatically-updating-outlooks-address-book-options-with-a-command-line-toolAll users will need access to the new list of contacts so we can't really set permissions to limit this. But it would be useful if a local address list was the default rather than the GAL, but obviously be able to choose the GAL if required. Thanks

Hi, Yes you can do it, have a look on following MS article Configuring Address List Segregation in Exchange Server 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936719.aspx Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Snr Software Engineer(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.hostingcontroller.com

HiThanks for the response. As I mentioned the local system is Exchange 2003 - sorry, I should have specified that's the side I'm asking about. Also - the link you reference relates to giving certain groups access to certain address lists which is not what we're looking for - but this might be useful in future. What I want to do is change the default address list view in Outlook so that the user can access ALL the address lists but their default is whatever we set it to - I just need to check if there is actually a way to do this apart from using the tool I referred to in the link - e.g. via Group Policy or some other central mechanism. Thanks

HiI was looking for a way to automate the process of changing people's address list view rather than having to ask everyone to change their view manually. The link I sent in my original posting seems to work but I was hoping there might be a Microsoft "official" way of doing this. Thanks

Hi,There is no workaround could change the Address List View automatically. We can only change it on the Outlook client manually. Thanks for your understanding.Allen
