Change AD Domain Name Prior to Installing Exchange 2010 SP1?
The Active Directory domain name (say abc.com) is different from the domain name for their email (say xyz.com). Their Netbios name is different yet (say SERVER). Is it recommended that I change the AD name to xyz.com to match the email domain name, and the Netbios name to xyz, before starting the Exchange Server installation? Thanks!

It does not really matter. Your your MX record - say zyz.org - has nothing to do with your Windows domain name. However, you could make your Windows domain name xyz.org. I would point out that Exchange is dependent on sites and services so make sure that this is properly setup prior to setting up your Exchange environment. Hi, No need to rename your AD to xyz.com, Just go-through the below link for more Info, as Jose said it all depends on your MX record. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd302431.aspxRavi | Messaging Specialist. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

As above mentioned, the email name is based on MX record. However, if you still would like to rename the AD domain name, please refer to the following article: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/renaming-a-windows-2008-active-directory-domain-dsforum2wiki.aspx Thanks.
