Cant send e-mail to internet accounts
I am new to exchange on small business server. I have managed to set up the server and can send e-mail to other users on the server and to internet mail accounts. However we have some users who have the same domain ie(fred@mydomain.co.uk) not located at this site who collect e-mail in outlook express at other locations. When I send to any address in mydomain.co.uk that is not set as a recipient on my server it fails. Its almost as though exchange looks for the user on the server internally and if its not there it does not try to send out via the internet. Can anybody help please...

If that user works at your company you should open the pop3 port on your firewall so that the user can get his mail from your SBS server. This because when your sending mail from inside to outside your server will try to deliver it locally because your server is responsible for your domain and will not try to deliver it via a smarthost or external dns.

I agree. It will not send out automatically if it does not find a recipient with your domain name since it owns that smtp domain. However if for some reason due to policy rules, etc you are unable to add this users account to your domain and use the pop3 option, maybe you can setup an additional smtp virtual server and exclusively add this users address and smarthost information to their destination???? Just a suggestion. I had to do this for slightly different reasons, but it worked for me.
