Cant search for any items in Outlook from the past since 2010 SP1 upgrade
I've upgraded my 2003 exchange servers to 2010 SP1 this past weekend and everything went ok,
but my users are reporting that they can not search for items that are in the mailbox (Inbox, Sent,...) from the past,
however post upgrade to 2010 emails, tasks,.... are searchable.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thank you
Hani

Hi Lanzi Hani,
Sorry for the later reply.
Could I confirm some information about your scenario?
1. Which version outlook do you use?
2. Does all the client have the issue or just special users?
3. Did you make a test with different outlook clients, such as outlook 2010?
4. Any special error on the client, and the exchange server.
I have run into the same issue in other threads, Personally opinion, it maybe a issue, I would do more research about it, maybe resolved soon by some KB. :) If any new information, I would post here.
Regards!

Gavin,
all Outlook clients are 2003, and i have tested on 2010 and the same thing happens.
i found a forum at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633475.aspx
which addresses this issues but haven't tried it yet because i built an ADG and started a resynchronization
and is taking FOREVER to do it.
I started it on 12/29 and it still says it is resynchronizing (Copy Queue Length is increasing)... another issue, but is this normal?
my exchange database is about 500Gb big.
Thank you

Hi Hani Lanzi,
If the clients use outlook 2003, I would strongly suggest that you use outlook 2007 or later version of outllook, per my known, there are many issues when use outlook 2003 with exchange 2010.
Per your DAG issue, if you have 500 Gb database, it maybe need more time to resynchronizing, it sounds normal. But, in my opinion, one database is good to keep 200GB size, if we need more, we could create another datase, it is also good to resync to the copy.
I would also use Test-ReplicationHealth to test it, you also could post the information here, and we could do more research about it.

Gavin,
Thank you for your information.
Yes, the database is still "Resynchronizing", it's been more than a week now.
Copy Queue Length is at 141000+ number now, and it is still growing, i don't know if this is good or bad.
Is it possible that it really is taking that long to resync the databases between two servers??
i tried test-replicationhealth:
Server Check Result Error

MAIL1 ReplayService Passed
MAIL1 ActiveManager Passed
MAIL1 TasksRpcListener Passed

Hi Hani,
I have run into an issue looks like yours, the issue caused by:The required log file is missing on the active copy.
The resolution: We dismounted the active database copy (S-Z mail store)
Moved the log files to another folder
Ran the update-mailboxdatabasecopy, check the healthy status
I would also suggest you could open a ticket from MS, then could confirm the issue through more log.
Regards!

Gavin,
thank you for your reply.
Now, once you dismounted the active copy of the database, which log files did you move? the ones from the active database that you just dismounted?

Hi Hani Lanzi,
Sure, if we dismount the database on the active node, the database would be clean shutdown, we could move all the log for the database to other folder, and then mount it to creat new log, it is a workaround.
Also note that, is there any antivirus software installed on the DAG member server, please confirm the file exclusion configured well.

ok,
so i got DAG working now by dismounting the active store, deleting log files on active node and deleting everything on a passive node and now they are showing mounted and healthy
with CQL 0. YAY!
i do have a different problem thou, which is the original one and that is, nobody in the organization can search for any items in the mailbox,
when i say can not search i mean nothing is found except starting from today on.
also, i tried moving my mailbox to another database and i reseeded that database and i can find items, however my mailbox is now showing as disconnected mailbox and cannot
reconnect because it does not find any names under matching or existing user.... weird!
Thank you for your time and help

Hi Hani Lanzi,
Per your information, firstly I want to verify which mode of you outlook end is using, cach mode or online?
It may be caused by corrupted index of the database, we could check it, refer to below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123701.aspx
And then reseed the search catalog, refer to below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633475.aspx
If the clients are using cach mode, how about install the windows search feature, then make a test.

Gavin,
all outlook clients are in online mode.
i went through the instructions provided and everything checks out, i also reseeded the databases and same results.
If i do a local move on a non-working search mailbox and move it to the 2nd database, search comes back with results... thats weird.
on a different note, i should probably open a new thread but i will ask you anyways.
is there a solution for a 5 second delay between outlook 2003 and ex2010? it seems like when you delete and item form inbox it sits there
for about 5 seconds and then goes to deleted items.
same with sending emails... once you hit send, it sits in Outbox for 5 seconds and then leaves.
i tested when in cached mode and i dont experience the same problem.
Thank you
Hani

A: It sounds the database has some corruption, I would suggest that you could move all the mailbox to other database, and delete the database, it is easy to achieve.
For you another question, I would suggest that you could open a new threads, thank you!

Gavin,
that's exactly what i ended up doing was that i moved all the mailboxes to the second database over the past week,
now both databases are showing mounted and healthy when i reseeded them, on both servers,
do you think i should still delete the database?
Thank you

Hi Hani Lanzi,
It depends on you, :), if it will not be used, we could delete it, or just keep it and not use it.
