Cant restore to a Recovery DB in Exchange 2003 SP2.
Back story: Had an exchange 2003 cluster with exchange VS (called exchangevs) Deleted VS. Uninstalled exchange from one node. Evicted all nodes from the cluster. Reinstalled exchange as standalone on one of the old servers (the other is going in the proverbial dumpster) So, I have installed exchange. I mounts and work fine. I create a store called Primary (it is empty, I dont mount it, I just need to do this for the recovery store). I create a recovery store group and add the Primary as the database to recover (I dont mount it either) I choose the options recommended by the back software provider (arcserver 11.5). Hit restore ... restore fails. Event Source: ESE BACKUP Event Category: Callback Event ID: 904 Information Store (3720) Callback function call ErrESECBRestoreOpen ended with error 0x8004010F . About a second after that the backup software says.. err.. sorry.. failed. Any thoughs? Thanks

What about if you don't use a RSG and recover it directly to the primary store? Did you also make sure that all DB locations, log path partions are the same? They will need to be the same for DB portability to work with 2003. James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Make use of recovery exchange server reconstructs corrupted exchange folders, messages and rest items Utility doesn't change original corrupted exchange file during repairing, it creates the copy and restores it.
