Cannot uninstall Microsoft Exchange receiving message that one or more users has a mailbox on the server
We recently installed a new server on our network that was to replace our existing Exchange Server. The new server is working fine and we moved all mailboxes over to the new server. I am now trying to uninstall Exchange Server from the old server and get this message: The component 'Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services cannot be assigned the action "Remove" because: -One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled before uninstalling this server. I have done all I know to do. I have searched Active Directory for all users that has a mailbox on this server and no users are found. All I see in the mailbox store under System Manager is the System Attendent, SMTP, etc mailboxes. What do I need to do to correct this? Thank you! David A.

Probably the server you are trying to remove is the first exchange server for the administrative group, there is a guideline document the things you should consider before removing the first exchange server from administrative group, send your email id to parameswaranp@fss.co.in so that I can reply with the document which may help you to solve your problem. Do a search in ADUC at the top level (domain) for all objects (just click Find Now with no parameters defined). Once you have all the results go to View>Choose Columns and add the "Exchange Mailbox Store" column. Sort by this column and confirm no users are defined to the old Exchange server.

I did the search as you suggested and all objects that had a mailbox store listed only our new server, none listed the one I am trying to uninstall.
