Cannot set UML shapes anymore

Hi, I created a UML model diagram, added some class diagrams, sequence diagrams etc. Now, a while later, I want to edit the Visio file and suddenly I am no longer able to edit my shapes. I keep getting the message "This UML shape exists on a drawing page which is not part of a UML model diagram. This shape is designed to work in drawings created using the UML Model Diagram template."

What happened? And how can I edit my shapes again? (and add new ones)

Regards, Stefan

I also noticed that the entire "UML" tab has disappeared. It seems that Visio no longer recognizes the file as a UML file or something. Has anyone experienced this before?

Sounds suspiciously like the drawing was opened in a version/edition that does not support the template and then saved (the information that identifies it as a uml drawing has probably been deleted).

Have you copied and pasted the shapes into a new blank page? You must create a new document/page using the UML template. The generated
document/page have important properties that must be retained.

Al,

Actually I created and edited it in the exact same instance of Visio 2010 Premium. No one else has used it.

Paul,

No I haven't, the shapes that I created were suddenly inaccessible. I haven't copied them to new pages, although I did create new shapes on other pages that refered to the same object in model explorer. (i.e. I dragged from the model explorer to new pages in the same document).

Just ran into the same  problem in Visio 2007 Professional and I'd been working on this diagram for hours.

I found the following advice in http://www.office-archive.com/72-visio-vba/80f0bd873638bb19.htm

Click on Tools \ Options \ Advance and make sure than Automation Events are checked.

I checked the option, restarted Visio, and everything is now working OK ...at least for the moment ;-)

Hi Stefan,

I just ran into the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Thanks, Tej.

Me too.  I was working on a sequence diagram in viso. I had to shut it down for some reason. Now when I open it to complete my diagram, it will not let me add new Object or update existing objects I am using Visio 2007.
