Cannot restore mailbox from Recovery Storage Group eventid 9357
Hello, We have an Exchange 2007 SP2 with role mailbox. When we mount an EDB in the recovery storage group and execute restore-mailbox for a particular user (rest of users on the EDB runs ok) we see an error: error code: -1056749164 and Event id 9357: Event Type: Error Event Source: Exchange Migration Event Category: Restore Mailbox Event ID: 9357 Date: 01/10/2010 Time: 11:18:45 User: N/A Computer: HDICLMXBE1A Description: Dumpster folder 'Aurex Global' was not found in target. Failed to add dumpster folder hierarchy. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Whe have repaired the EDB file with ESEUTIL /p, /d, and checked with ISINTEG but still got the same error. Thanks, Ilya

Hi, Did you try to restore specific folders from the mailbox to see if that works. The error message seems to say that there is a problem with the dumpster folder for thos mailbox. Leif

Thanks Leif, Yes, we tried to restore specific folders. When whe use restore-mailbox with -IncludeFolder "\Sent Items" or "\Inbox" its runs OK, but the data we want to restore is on the root folder. Regards, Ilya

Definitely sounds like a messed up mailbox. To look at whats actually available in that mailbox check out Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp Once installed you can get a DEMO license that will allow you to open the offline EDB and you will be able to Browse and Search through all mailboxes. You wont be able to do exports or recoveries until you license but at least you will be able to see if the Mailbox is intact and contains the desired information. BTW doesn't use or need RSG and you can load on as little as an XP or Windows 7 desktop. Troy Werelius Lucid8

Hi Ilya, Seems like Dumpster was corrupted for the mailbox. Can you run the Restore-Mailbox with -ExcludeFolders "\Deleteditems" ?Frank Wang

Hi Frank, Yes, We tried -ExcludeFolders "\Deleteditems" with the same error. Can we restore the mailbox without the dumpster? Thanks, Ilya

Hi Ilya, I think you have to restore the specified folders one by one now...Frank Wang

Thank Frak, We tried one by one, but when whe try to restore custom folders on the root mailbox (not Sent Items or similar) we have the same error. We installed a trial of Digiscope and when we mount the DB some folders of the mailbox are in grey color... there are the same folders on the Event viewer errors... Thanks, Ilya

Folders and Items shown grey in color designate hard deleted items/folders If you can you use DigiScope to navigate into the folders to see the desired data then, unless there is some major corruption, DigiScope can recover it for you and we have project licenses that make it pretty cost effective Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
