Cannot resolve DL contained in Public Folders
Hi all, The exchange server of my customer (SBS ver. 2003) has a problem to resolve Distributed Lists, which are located in Public Folders. I have created a folder “F” of type Contact-Item as a sub folder of Public Folders root. Then I have created few contacts and few DL-s in there. Some of DL-s also contain other DL-s. Then I compose a new mail, and type the name of one group from contact folder “F” in the “TO”-box and press “Check Names”. The group is NOT resolved. If I try to resolve some contact contained in the same folder, the contact is resolved properly. My question is why I cannot resolve the DL? To figure out the issue, I’ve made sure that folder “F” is visible in Address List. Moreover I have also checked that the folder “F” is listed in resolution list in Address Book. Please also note that DL can be resolved if it is contained in personal contact folder. Thanks Damir

I would rethink this "DLs in Public Folders" thing. Why arent you creating these DLs the standard way?

It is standard way Andy!? Public Folders\All Public Folders\F\DL1 Public Folders\All Public Folders\F\DL2 ... What else would be a standard?

I would create them in EMC or with Powershell in AD so they are easily visible in the GAL if the intent is that they are accessible to all the users.

I would do it too Andy, but mu customer will not :( Anyhow, the same structure works fine on ather Exchenge Servers. It must be just some different configuration?! Damir

Could be. Its hard to say. :) I tend to avoid interaction with public folders if possible. Too many quirks.

Please make sure the problematic DLs exist in the AD, otherwise the group won’t be resolved How the Recipient Update Service Populates Address ListsJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Hi James, a) Problematic DL is not an AD DL!! b) If the problematic DL cannot be resolved if not in AD, how then it can be resolved in other test environment. (some other Exchange instance) Damir

In the “Address Book” windows, “Tools” menu, “Options”, you have verified that the public contact folder is in the “When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following orders”? Also, please check the permissions for “Default” group on the public contact folder, verify if they have “Reviewer” permission at leastJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
