Cannot receive e-mail to second Accepted Domain - 550 5.1.1 User unknown
Scenario is a small business running SBS 2008 with Exchange Server 2007. Business previously used <legacyDomain.com> but is now in transition to <newDomain.com> and wishes (temporarily) to retain <legacyDomain.com> whilst publishing generic address office@newDomain.com So, I have added an additional Accepted Domain (using Hub Transport within Organization Configuration within Exchange Management Console) - and we now have: <local> - Authoritative - not default legacyDomain - Authoritative - default newDomain - Authoritative - not default Test messages sent to office@newDomain.com are bounced with this header: A message ... could not be delivered. ... The following address(es) failed: office@legacyDomain.com (generated from office@newDomain.com) SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<office@legacyDomain.com>: host mail.legacyDomain.com [IP address] 550 5.1.1 User unknown Please note that a Distribution Group named 'office' has been created within <local> with both office@newDomain.com and office@legacyDomain.com assigned to it. Do I need to create an Edge subscription (or similar)? Any help will be very welcome!

Do I need to create an Edge subscription (or similar)? Do you have an Edge Server? If not, no. If yes, are you sending the email from inside the organization? If so, a hypothetical Edge Server would not come into play. Mail flow would be something like this: Sender MBX (MBX server role) > HT server role > Recipient MBX (MBX Server role). In your case, these server roles are on the same machine (correct?).

If so then you need to allow non-authenticated users to send email on this group.

Unless SBS 2008 implements an Edge server by default then we don't have one. This is a single server (machine) scenario.

The test messages were sent from a remote machine on an entirely separate network - I've not tried sending to it from the local network. I don't think I understand your point about non-authenticated users ...

this is a very common issue or a common mistake. by default non of the newly created distribution group allow anyone from outside organization to to accept email. Follow these then u are all set Right clik and take the properties of your Distribution Group Click on MAIL FLOW SETTINGS TAB Take the properties of MEssage Delivery Settings Un-check this option - Require that all senders are authenticated

Is this box checked? http://www.offsitenoc.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/exch.gif (This is in the properties of the group - mail delivery restrictions) If so, then outside (normally non-authenticated users) will not be able to send to the group. Please uncheck the box and have someone try again. Edge Server - no, you do not have one.
