Cannot open another mailbox in OWA.
We are running Exchange 2007 SP3 on Windows 2008. Two server for a mailbox cluster and one server client access and Hub transport. We migrated to this system form Exchange 2003. Having full access permission to a mailbox is enough permission to open the mailbox in Outlook; however it in not enough in OWA. To be able to open another mailbox OWA, I use the Exchange 2003 tools and in Active Directory Users and Computers find the mailbox user and go to Mailbox Rights, in Advanced add the other user account with Full Mailbox access and apply onto This object, subcontainers and children objects. Can anyone give me an idea as to what is wrong?

Refer the below site. It may help you in resolving your problem. http://hosting.intermedia.net/support/kb/default.asp?id=1137 you must be granted Full Access permissions for the mailbox that you wish to open Girishp

Hello Carl, Check you have enabled "Allow inheritable permission tab in the security of the mailbox. I suggest to configure that mailbox in outlook with that user account initally and check he access that mailbox... If it not works then add the mailbox in outlook and provide the access on that mailbox for the user account by right clicking and going to the properities - provide him the access... Then again create and check it out - if it works then the same should also be success in OWA too.. Exchange Queries

Inheritance is enabled. I tried configuring mailbox from outlook, which made no difference. What could be different from setting Full access using the Exchange 2003 tools vs. the Exchange 2007 EMC? I ask because setting Full Access only works in OWA, if I use the Exchange 2003 tools.

Check OWA policy (or default one if you don't use custom one) and ECP options for user account you wish to use for opening another mail account. Regards, Marko

I"m not sure if someone here can give you the exact reason why using the ADUC 2003 tools is not working as expected when managing 2007 mailboxes. It is incompatible, just like if you provision a mailbox using ADUC 2003 for an Exchange 2007 mailbox the mandatory properties are not set. Basically you cannot use the 2003 tools to manage.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
