Cannot open Outlook folders
I am using Outlook 2007 (with all patches and updates) on Exchange Server 2003. I receive this error message when Outlook opens: "Cannot start the reminder service. Cannot show reminders. Your server administrator has limited the number of items you can open simultaneously. Try closing messages you have opened or removing attachments and immages from unsent messages you are compos..." Once Outlook opens, for some folders under Inbox, I receive this error message: "Cannot display the folder. Your server administrator has limited the number of items you can open simultaneously. Try closing messages you have opened or removing attachments and images from unsent messages you are composing." If I select the Folder Size link under Folder List, Size (without subfolders) shows <Error>, as does Total size (including subfolders). There are no open messages or unsent messages. I have tried Repair E-mail Account, but the "Search for my server settings" returns first returns a security certificate warning (the network has an Exchange 2008 server in test mode, but the active server is Exchange 2003), then an error message "Problem Connecting to Server" is returned. If I configure manually, the Exchange server is correctly identified as 2003 and account setup successfully completes. However, all of the error messages regarding "Cannot start..." recur.

I had tried to install hotfix package 970944 previously, but an alert is returned saying that the package has already been applied. Today, upon attempting to reinstall the same alert is returned. I have also attempted to start Outlook using the /resetfolders and /cleanreminders switches. The same error — "Cannot show reminders...." — occurs, including the inability to open certain folders. I also applied the Timezone Update Tool, because this problem began about the same time as the change to daylight savings time. That did not resolve the issue. I do not believe that the issue does not occur on other client machines, although one of our IT techs believes that he has heard of others describing similar issues. I'm not convined that it's not a network/server issue. Recently, the problem appeared to be resolved and Outlook functioned correctly for several days. But the issue has returned.
