Cannot move Mailbox Database on brand new Exchange 2007 install
I just installed Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2003 R2 x64 system. I want to move the Exchange databases to the data drive (D:) but and getting the following error. Mailbox DatabaseFailed Error:This operation cannot be performed on a remote server or a clustered mailbox server in a cluster continuous replication enviornment. Please use the -ConfigurationOnly option and then manually move the files.Parameter name: ConfigurationOnly Exchange Management Shell command attempted:move-DatabasePath -Identity 'wtssserver1\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database' -EdbFilePath 'D:\Exchsvr\Mailbox Database.edb' I am not running a "clustered mailbox server in a cluster continuous replication environment". Exchange 2007 was installed on a single server with the following roles: Hub Transport, Client Access, Mailbox. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Was Mailbox Database dismounted? And were you logged into and running the command from wtssserver1? Is there any additional information if you run it with the -Verbose switch?

I tried it with both the Mailbox mounted and dismounted. I was logged on locally as the Domain Administrator. I was running this using the GUI so the -Verbose swith was not used. I still need to resolve this as now I have both the Mailbox and Public stores stuck on C drive which has limited space compared to the data drive D: Joe

Have you enable Local continunos replication(LCR)? The D Drivers is a local disk?

I don't think that Replication would be causing this problem. It may be possible that an Anti virus program has a hold on the files which not allowing them to be moved. Are the storage groups log file paths and databases path excluded from where the antivirus checks? Worst comes to worst you might be able to move them by using the LCR feature. Have the copy paths be where you want the files to be and do a Restore-StorageGroupCopy -ReplaceLocations, and it might fix the issue. It's a work around, but it may work.

I have the same exact issue....brand new install. I guess by default everything is loaded onto C. My D drive on the same box is much larger and whereI want my logs/storage groups to reside. This has to be a flaw since we're having the identical error....

Hey Joe, I have the exact same issue, exchange installed the database and the logs in C:\. By any chance, did you ever fix that problem? If you did, I would really appreciate to know what the fix is. You can email me at danandries at hotmail.com. Thanks, Dan

Hi There, I had the same issue and this might be a bug in Exchange 2007. The solution for my problem was related to the CN of the serverobject in the configuration partition being lowercase. When I set the CN to uppercase the problem was solved. I was comparing settings with the other servers that were working and the only thing different was those CN's. Supprisingly enough the issues were gone after I changed them. There might be a -match instead of a -imatch somewhere maybe worth noting: I provisioned the servers before installing them. Regards, Mark

I had the exact same error as everyone else right after instaling a brand new Exchange 2007 server. After reading everyone else having the same issue and finding no staright forward answer I simply created another Mailbox database in the First Storage Group, placing the database files on the D:.Then I moved the mailboxes from the original Mailbox Database to the new database on the D: and deleted the original mailbox Database. It only took a few minutes.
