Cannot install due to 'The language of this installation package is not supported by your system'

I'm running Win7.

I have a US-English version installed.

I downloaded the Office Pro 2010 ISO but it was too big to burn to a CDROM, so I extracted it and ran the installation from there.

When I try running the setup.exe, I immediately get the error message "The language of this installation package is not supported by your system"

This link says that there will be problems installing if I do not extract the complete folder structure, but I do have the folder structures correctly extracted

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/office2010/thread/fc387fb0-1ad2-4945-8885-15a1d1bcdfef

Other places say there might be problems if I've tried to uninstall Office but was not able to uninstall correctly.  This is a new system, and I have not uninstalled anything.

So I found the installation log file at C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\SetupExe(...).log

There are a whole log of successful XML parsings, but at the end, there is the following error message (my user name is "owner"):

What is wrong?  How can I install this?

Hi,

This error typically occurs when the file/folder structure for Office source is altered. This can happen when you extract the download to a folder using a file extraction utility.

This download from MSDN is a Microsoft Self Extractor package, and the only way to extract contents and maintain folder structure is to use the built-in extraction process. If you call the download with a /extract parameter it will prompt you where to extract the files. Here is a sample:

en_office_professional_plus_2010_x64_515489.exe /extract

If the extraction is successful you will see a bunch of folders in the root folder like Excel.en-us, Word.en-us, and ProPlus.WW. You should also see setup.exe. Run setup again and this error should go away.

More info about MSE packages is available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912203/en-us

Thank you, Ms. Tang, but if you read my post above, you'll see that I said I had already seen this potential cause and had ensured that I have the correct directory structure.

I am in the exact same boat.  New Windows 7 system, new fresh install of Office 2010 WITH the CD from Microsoft and I am still getting this message and finding no solutions to this.  I can't believe that the last posting on this problem was back in 2010, where are the techies for Microsoft and a reliable solution to this problem.

I say, "Exactly!"

Where is Monstersoft (I mean Microsoft) when you need them?!

It's like Michael Jackson sang in one of the last songs he created before he died:

"All I want to say is that they don't really care about us..."

It's kind of hard to deny that someone with his fame wouldn't have an idea of what's going on in the world of closed doors and corporate manipulation.

To them we're just mere commoners-------subjects for ridicule and oppression-------what else is new?!

The average citizen will always be down-trodden by these corporate thugs and their masonic cohorts...
