Outlook 2000 does not connect to exchange server. The client computer is part of a domain. I can log the client computer in to the domain. I can ping the server running Exchange Server 2003. I can map drives to the server. I can get mail from the client machine using OWA. When I set up a new profile and add Exchange Server as a service, it will underline both my server name and my mailbox when I check the name. The only thing I cannot do is get my email using Outlook 2000. I have 3 other machines connected to the server and they can all get Outlook email. I get an email message that says "unable to open your default email folders. You do not have permission to log on." This came about only after I rebuilt the server last week. The other 3 machines I just deleted the profile and services and rebuilt that and was able to connect. Thanks for any help. I hope this is the right forum. Hey Dan what Sp is your outlook 2000 running and what messages are you getting while trying to connect to your exchange server?

I think its running SP2 but I can't get to help/about in outlook since I haven't first connected with the server. The exact error message I get is "unable to open your default email folders. You do not have permission to log on." Before I rebuilt my server, I was able to get outlook email with no issues. I have 2 other workstations that can access Exchange email without issues. Its just this 1 machine. I can get OWA from the workstation and ping the server without issues.

In the event it helps diagnose where the problem is, I had previously granted other users access to the workstation mailbox. I can go to a 2nd workstation and access the first workstation outlook email. So...from workstation 1 I can ping the router, add a profile and get the server and mailbox underlined, use OWA from WS1 but outlook says I do not have permission to log on. When I go to WS2, I can log in as that user and see the exchange mailbox for the user of WS1. Thanks for any help.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. When you say recreate the user profile on WS1, do you mean delete the user on WS1 and create a new user with the same name as the login name to exchange server? Thanks.

Couldn't get it to work. I tried renaming the folder in c:\documents and settings\ and creating a new user name with the correct user name and password to log into the domain. Same result. I can ping the server, map drives with the server, use OWA to the server but cannot, for the life of me, get WS1 to get email from the server without getting an error message that says I do not have permission to log on. Any other thoughts? Thanks for the input to date.

hey can you log on with the user who is having the issue. Open out profiles and delete all the profile that might be there. After this open outlook and use the wizard to try to setup that user's profile again. Even though I do not think this is necessary check the exchange feature tab for the user account and verify the user has the correct permissions. I don't think this is necessary because you are able to use OWA to access the user's mailbox but just check it to be sure.
