Cannot create send connector to smarthost on Exchange 2010 SP1 edge transport server
I am deploying Exchange 2010 SP1 as an upgrade to my Exchange 2003 environment. With the Exchange 2003 servers, I have one front-end and two back-end servers. The front-end server forwards and receives all email via a smarthost (both in the DMZ). I have my Exhcnage 2010 environment set up with two CAS/Hub/Mailbox servers on the LAN and an Edge Transport server in the DMZ. I am just testing the Exchange 2010 at this point. Incoming mail routed through the smarthost arrives to a test account on the 2010 server. However, any email outbound from the Exchange 2010 account hangs on the Edge server in the queue. Since I am running this in parallel with my Exchange 2003 environment, I noticed that the Exchange 2010 install copied my "To Internet" connector that is being used to forward mail to the smarthost. I have tried creating a new Send Connector in addition to the one copied and still no luck on getting meil to flow outbound. Internal email is working properly. I have verified SMTP connectivity between the Edge server and the smarthost, but I have no idea what to check from here. Any help?

Hi, You can do telnet at port 25 from EDGE server to smart host and send test mail thru command. You can use below comand to test it. http://exchange.mvps.org/smtp_frames.htm Try to create a send connector and use smart host for relay in exchange 2010 then try outbound mail. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997285.aspx Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

I tried telnet and am getting "550 domain of forward path is not allowed". I guess this means that my smarthost is not allowing relaying from the new server?

Yes, you need to check smart host setting and allow your EDGE server to relay at port 25.Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com
