Cannot connect to exchange
We are running Exchange 2003Sp2 in a two node cluster. We have outlook 2007 clients. When we fail over to secondary exchange our Outlook won’t connect. All mailboxes are mounted and mail is moving through the queue. When we fail back to the other node outlook can connect, any ideas?

Are your Outlook clients point to the Cluster name and not to one of the nodes directly? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Did you try and check the connectivity tool for the Outlook client? Right client the outlook icon in the area with the clock while pressing ctrl - select connectivity status. Let us know what it says. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

So it is listing access to the public folders, mailbox database and active directory correctly? What does it say in the status column? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

The status column reports established. We are operating on the Exchange Server that is functioning correctly. It is our currect secondary that we had to move from in our cluster.

When possible try and fail the Exchange over to the other host and check the status then. Until then, do you have any reports in the Eventviewer on the node that is not working correctly? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

No odd entries in the event logs. This issue just started about three weeks ago.

Are you failing over on a regular basis to test the servers? When is the next service window where you can try again and check the connection status? A simple thing more to check is can you ping the cluster by name when you are on the "defunctional" server? can you ping the IP of the cluster? /Martin Exchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

We can ping the cluster by ip and host name. Unfortunately our next window is in a week.

When you do have the window try and do the same tests, ping ip, ping name, check outlook connectivity status. It's a bit hard to toubleshoot without being able to try the suggestions :) I hope someone else has some more ideas as well. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.
