Cannot Open the Specified Files

In Word (Office 2013), I am trying to paste a link in a word doc from a PDF stored on our website. When I put the link into word, I get two pop up boxes, one asks if file is from a trusted source, when I click okay, the next box says "Unable to open. Cannot open file path.  Here is link:

I can paste this link into Outlook email  no problem, does not work in Excel, Word, or Powerpoint.

Hi,

Based on the error message, the issue might be caused by following conditions:

  • You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer:

    • A proxy server -or-
    • A firewall that does not allow HTTP requests to be placed on your local network
    -and-
  • Internet Explorer is not your default browser.

    -and-
  • The ForceShellExecute registry key is not present in the following location or is not set to 1:       

    For 32 bit Office Versions installed on 64 bit OperatingSystems

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet

    For 32 Bit Office Versions installed on 32 bit Operating Systems or 64 Bit Office Versions installed on 64 bit Operating Systems

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet
