Can you put a size quota on a single folder in a user's mailbox

I have a request from a customer to create a custom folder in everyone's mailbox (no problem) and then to apply a size limit to the folder. This is not a public folder but just a normal folder that users can drop a certain type of email into. They are using Office 365/Exchange Online.

TIA!

Rob

Hi Rob,

What is the Server OS that you want to host Folder to share, if the Windows server 2003 R2 or later OS versions, you can install the FSRM (File Server Resource Manager) it's built feature under File Services. You can install it through Server Manager snap in.

follow this link for more info.

Thanks for the reply Ravi. Unfortunately I'm talking about Exchange mail folders, not file system folders. Specifically I'm looking to do this on Office 365.

Hi Rob,

No unfortunately, you can not enforce the quota at folder level in the mailbox.

Though you can enforce the retention/age limit of items if you are looking to reduce the size under control.

Thanks Amit,

That is just what I thought but I wanted to be sure before I gave a definite reply. The situation is exactly the opposite of what you would assume. They want to limit the size of this folder because it will have a "keep forever" retention tag associated with it and they don't want people putting too much stuff in there. I have an alternative approach I like better anyway but just wanted to be sure before I went down that route.
