Can you change an email address to something other than the domain logon name
I am having trouble with changing email addresses. Its exchange 2003 running on Windows2003 server. Question one: With exchange 2003 I have a user who logs onto the domain with the user name hind. His email is currently hind@shallweek.co.za I want to change his email address to SmithH@shallweek.co.za without changing his domain logon user name. In the AD interface, I double click on hind to access hind properties on the tab E-mail addresses just below the tab it says Each e-mail address type has one default reply address. To change the default, slect an entry in the list, and then click Set As Primary. there are options buttons below new edit remove. I tried adding SmithH@shallweek.co.za. Here and setting it to primary. But mail to that address fails. How do I change his email address to SmithH@shallweek.co.za???? Question two: In the same screen on another account the primary reply address is set to the following domain. Joe@haalmotors.co.za. Also listed in the same screen is Joe@motorworld.co.za. If I select joe@motorworld.co.za as the primary, and send mail to that address, it fails, how do I correct this so that people can send to joe@motorworld.co.za???? Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Try to simply add the 'smithH@" address as a secondary SMTP address without changing the accounts' primary (aka default) email address. Test mail delivery to that account and then move on from there. 2. That sounds like a message routing issue. Can other users send/receive mail using the motorworld domain name? Routing may not be properly configured for that at the Exchange System level, so it's not a user-specific issue.

Hi, Please understand that the Default Email Address only affect which email address will displayed to recipient. If the recipient reply the email, it will reply to the Default Email Address. Thus, to troubleshoot the issue, please firstly let me know the NDR message received when attempting to send email to the recipients (SmithH@shallweek.co.za, joe@motorworld.co.za) Please let me know whether you use the external account to send email to them or internal account. Please also let me know which method (Outlook, OWA and so on) you use to send email to the recipients (SmithH@shallweek.co.za, joe@motorworld.co.za). If you use internal account and Outlook to send the email, please attempt the following method to troubleshoot the issue: Note: Please perform the following steps in Outlook Online Mode instead of Cached Exchange Mode. 1. Create a new message, type the entire SmithH@shallweek.co.za email address as recipient (without using any auto-complete entry) and then click Check Names. 2. Please let me know whether the SmithH@shallweek.co.za address can be resolved to the Display Name of the user hind 3. If the email address cannot be resolved, please open Address Book and locate the user hind 4. Right click the user hind and click Properties, under the E-mail Addresses tab, please check whether the address SmithH@shallweek.co.za is displayed as a SMTP address. If the SmithH@shallweek.co.za address can be resolved to the Display Name of the user hind, please attempt to send an email to SmithH@shallweek.co.za and help me gather the message tracking log for further research. Mike
