Can we create a mailbox in Exchange Server 2007 that our webserver (Coldfusion) can send email from?
I am trying to create a mail box in Exchange Server 2007 that our webserver (Coldfusion) can use to send email from. It will use this account to send outbound email from various users other than just the account user to people outside and inside our domain. I have successfully accomplished this but only by making the user of the mailbox part of the Domain Admins group on our network. Once we make the user a standard domain user then the email account-Coldfusion can no longer send email out ("550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender " per Coldfusion logs). For security reasons we do not want to have this user/email account joined to the Domain Admins group. Can anyone offer any better ways of accomplishing what we are trying to do? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, You need to assign the Coldfusion user send as permissions on the desired mailboxes - you can do that from the management console in Exchange 2007 SP1 or from the management shell (search for add-adpemissions).. Leif

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I had a feeling I was overlooking something obvious. I tried your solution and so far it appears to do the trick, thanks again.

Another question, is it possible to have the user disabled in A.D. for a mail account like this? In other words not allow access to network resources but still allow Coldfusion to send email through the account? Thanks.

Hi, Sure - if the user doesn't log on there should be no problem in this. Leif

It seems when I disable the user in A.D., then CF can no longer send email out through the account. Can you offer any insight on the best way to do this? Ideally the mailbox/user would have the least permissions possible, but still have the ability to send email. Even if it means creating a resource mailbox. Thank you.

CF is getting an "authentication failed" error in the logs.
