Can one AD user have more than one Exchange Mailbox?

Hi everybody,

I have one doubt - Can one Active Directory user have more than one Exchange mailbox? Because in Creating Exchange Server mailbox-enabled and mail-enabled objects in Active Directory "A mailbox-enabled object is a Windows 2000 Active Directory object that has one or more Exchange Server mailboxes associated with it." is written. So, I am confused.

Thanks & regards,

Talib Hussain

Hi talib2608,

An Exchange Server mailbox-enabled recipient object is a user who actually has a user account on your system. A mail-enabled recipient object is a user who does not have a valid user account, but who does have an email address.

How you can see in this article, the filters are different

Creating Mailboxes

Filter:  objectClass = user

Creating Mail-Enabled Objects

Filter:  objectClass = user & objectClass = contact

Hi SSorin,

Just to confirm about your reply, are you saying that the first part was mail user as given in Manage mail users: Exchange Online Help and the second part was mail contact as given in Manage mail contacts: Exchange 2013 Help?
