Okay, I do desktop support for a University that has all of their PC's on a Active Directory domain and all of the pc's are running Windows XP, Basically a user asked me to attach a USB Printer to her PC simply just to share it with other Pc's in the office... simple right? So I did this and the printer sharing worked fine, But it only works fine if I turn the firewall off the Host PC that is attached to the printer or if I take the PC off of Active Directory. Then If I put the Host PC back on Active Directory or turn the firewall back on you can not share the printer. I checked the exception within the firewall to make sure the TCP 139 port is there and it is, I talked with the IT department of the University about this and they don't know what to tell me. So I'm coming to you guys, If it is Active Directory that is causing this then I really would like someone's expertise on this issue please!! Im just a desktop support guy I don't know much about Active Directory. Thank You

Hi, File and printer sharing can fail when you turn on Windows Firewall because file and printer sharing requires your computer to respond to unsolicited incoming traffic on one or more of the following ports: TCP ports 139 and 445, and UDP ports 137 and 138. Windows Firewall blocks incoming traffic through these ports. To fix this problem, you need to unblock one or more TCP and UDP ports. You can create an exception to turn on file and print sharing to rectify the issue. I believe your domain settings enables the firewall automatically.
