I am unable to rename section names in OneNote 2010 with notebooks stored on Sky Drive. I can rename the section from either the webapp or from OneNote 2010. But once it tries to sync it changes it back (usually to "New Section 1").

I am running OneNote 2010 on XP SP3.

I have seen a few posts that report similar issue. There was an issue with OneNote synching with Skydrive where notebook with many files with long filenames would stop synching.The work-arounds include using fewer sections, shorter section names, and especially fewer section groups as this will cause the problem to manifist itself sooner. 

The fix for this was applied on the servers over the last few days and any notebook that stopped synching should now automatically sync. If not, you can navigate to one such notebook and hit Shift+F9 - which will force a sync and sync should work from now on.

I have tried Shift+F9, but it will still change the section name to the previous one.

It always shows sync successfully and no error reported.

Any one has solved this ??? have the same problem - i can only change section name on web app when I'm doing it on my machine the change is overwritten  by synchronization.

any help?

I also am having this issue. Running WinXP SP3 at work, and apparently, only a certain number of sections are allowed to have names. If I go over that limit (39 in my case), every section can only be named "New Section_X" depending on how many I create. I tried creating a new notebook, but the new sections in that notebook suffer the same fate. 

This is not a sync issue. Everything syncs just fine. And the names of my existing sections are fairly short; the longest name is, literally, "January 2012 Priorities."

I would love to get a fix for this!

I had this same problem. I was able to fix it by going to the drive where it was shared and renaming the folder name (since OneNote likes to save sections individually). It seems to have worked! If you're having the same problem with the file shared on Sky Drive, maybe you can try changing the file name there? I haven't gotten that far yet.

5 years later my turn to have this same problem...
looks hard to Microsoft to solve problems... great user experience...
