Can exchange server 07 run server hosted and downloaded email at the same time.
Forgive me if this a common sense question, but we are just now leaving GW 5.5 and Outlook express and moving to Outlook and exchange server. Our company has about 200 employees and only 30(our management) need mobil access to Outlook, the rest could download their emails to their box. That would be our ideal situation, and I would like to know if its possible?? Can one mail server do it or would we need to setup two mail servers, one for hosting and the other for downloading. The reason is our management would love it if they could check their emails while they travel. We are trying to avoid having to host 170 users emails on our mail server. Thanks Clint

Hello, In exchange you can configure Outlook profile for all users to send and receive mails on each client machine. You can also configure POP3 or IMAP4 profile for users, who doesn't admin rights to download Emails to their client machine. Best option is that Every can use OWA to access they mails. For hosting you don't have to installed two servers. You can create a Recipient policy for that domain so it can stamp the Email address for that domain. Also create a MX record for that domain & it should be published on the Internet. MicroSoft Exchange Admin. & Connector EXCHANGE2010, MCSE, MCTS, MCSA MESSAGING, CCNA & GNIIT

The OWA is a great feature, but I'm assuming it doesn't allow you to see emails that you've already opened if your system is setup to download emails to your machine when you open Outlook. For most of our users that would be fine, but I'm wanting our management to view all of their emails. The could be traveling and need to view an email from a couple of months ago. So they would need their emails on the server, in order to use a mobile connection with their blackberry. 80% of our staff would be happy with downloading their emails, and freeing up space on our server. But they they could use OWA to view their emails while their on training. This is what I want to achieve, and sounds like we can setup each with a customize email config. Am I correct on this concept Thanks again

Hello Native Tech, You can use RPC over HTTPS. By using this you can also able to see the old mails in the personal folder (PST).
