Can an Old Forest coexist with a New one?
Here's the scoop.I have a current forest setup at work. Example; domain.lanThis domain contains 2 domain controllers (win2000), a couple of member servers and an Exchange 2000 server. The domain.lan was setup years ago and now we would like to create a new domain in a new forest newdomain.lan. The reason we want to create newdomain.lan is because the old AD is giving us tons of problems because it wasn't setup correctly years ago.We also purchased Exchange 2k3 and will want to migrate all users from domain.lan ad to newdomain.lan. Is there a way to migrate everyone to the new ad and exchange while having domain.lan still active!Does anyone have any suggestions or concerns with this solution.Any feedback would be appreciated!Giaco

Yes, this is a fairly common restructuring scenario. You can use Microsoft's ADMT v3.0 for the migration of the resources from the old forest to the new. The Exchange Migration Wizard will do the job of moving the mailboxes from the 2000 org to the new 2003 org. Be aware that this is a fairly labour-intenstive process and not without some level of risk. Consider the alternative - i.e. fixing and upgrading your existing AD and Exchange infrastructure. It might well be a cheaper excercise. Tony www.activedir.org
