Can I mount a 2010 Database as a RecoveryDB in 2013?

I need to recovery old Mailboxes from 2010 backups. I can do everything to the DB except mount it:

Failed to mount database "RecoveryDB". Error: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed.
Error: Operation failed with message: MapiExceptionCorruptStore: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80040600,
ec=-2147219968)
Diagnostic context:

Is this doable? what am I missing if so?

This is something that is not supported.  You can only mount a database that is from the same version of Exchange.

so I guess let me rephrase my question. How do I recover my old  mailboxes? We retain years worth exchange data. We have never needed to go so far back. Is there a edb viewer or something that i can open it with?

What is the MS proposed way to do this? Create a test domain with old exchange servers? Thanks.

If this was an ongoing requirement, I would purchase 3rd party Exchange recovery software that way you aren't dependent on any version of Exchange being up and running

You can use our DigiScope product to achieve that

In such circumstance, you will need to use any good third party tool like, Lepide exchange recovery manager that would be a suitable choice to resolve your purpose in a secure way.

To recover each and every mailboxes from the not working .edb file, try stellar exchange mailbox recovery tool. This utility comes with demo version, so, do a test before purchase.

AS you can see there are several tools on the market that allow for access to offline databases and while price is always AN issue it should never be THE issue.  With that said be very careful about the tool you select because accuracy and completeness of data recovery is where most tools fail and really there are only 3 that do a great job which are Ontrack PowerControls, Dell/Quest Recovery Manager and Lucid8's DigiScope.  Obviously I am biased and think our own tool provides you the best resolution however if you dont license our product then I would recommend you use one of the other two I named and stay far away from low end tools.
