Can I hide Distribution Group Membership in Exchange 2007?
In Exchange 2003, if I wanted to hide the membership of a Distribution Group from the GAL,I couldright-click and choose "Hide DL Membership". I can't find any way to accomplish this in Exchange 2007 using the GUI, or using PowerShell. Has this capability been removed in Exchange 2007?

Hi, Looks like it. Have you tried with query based distribution groups - Outlook users should not be able to see membership of these. Leif

Looks like it adds a value to the following attirbute. hideDLMembership: TRUE; Is this setting still valid for exchange 2007?

Although I agree that QBDGs would not allow users to see membership, managing most distribution groupswould be horrible to manage as QBDGs. I suppose I could use Majordomo. I just never expected to need to deploy Majordomo to cover for functionality previously existing in Exchange 2003.

Setting the hideDLMembership attribute of the distribution groupto TRUE only appears to have an effect when users attempt to examine membership through OWA. Outlook clients (using either the Global or Offline Address Books) can still see the entire distribution list membership. So at this point, I'd still have to say that it appears that Exchange 2007 no longer supports the ability to hide Distribution Group membership... at least for Outlook clients.

Why hiding distribution memberships in Exchange 2007 is no longer supported. http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archive/2007/12/14/why-hiding-distribution-memberships-in-exchange-2007-is-not-supported.aspx

Though there is a known work around to achive this configuration I agree with the post shared by Mike Crowley above. Agreeing to the above post by Mike I would also not recommend going the other way around this problem and use Exchange Tasks in exchange 2003. You can create a Dynamic Distribution Group or a QBDL in stead to ensure it is secure.M
