Can Exchange Server 2007 run Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 on x64 Achitecture?
Can Exchange Server 2007 run on a Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 OS on x64 Architecture? TechNet System requirements do not specifically say it will not, requirements just say Windows Server 2003 R2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1 without specifying x64 or x86. I have read up and most everything I read is stating it must be the on the x64 OS. I have a x86 OS disk and a x64 Architecture PC with 8gb of Ram (it actually has x64 Vista installed now). Can anyone answer this please? Thank you!

Hi,32-bit version of Exchange 2007 is only for non-production environments (testing environments) so if you install it on 32bit of OS with 64bit hardware it is NOT supported in production.Exchange Server 2007: Platforms, Editions, and Versionshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232170.aspxHowever x86 OS can not utilize the x64 hardware as like x64 OS and still 32bit hardware limitations apply so suggest you to install Windows 2003 R2 x64 and install Exchange.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thank you Mr. Tank. Perhaps the TechNet site should be more specific in by making the system specifications Windows Server 2003 SPI x64 and Windows Server 2003 R2 x64. Being vague and my lack of expertise and ignorance may be good for Microsoft's business, but in this economy I can no longer afford to upgrade by buying another operating system.See this Link which I used before I purchased Exchange 2007http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspxIs there a way to "upgrade" to a x64 OS like the Vista x64 retail upgrade from x32? Next time I will ask the question before I buy the product. Thanks again Mr Tank.

Hi Dan,~ The link which youreferredismentioningWindows Vista to use Exchange management tools as like in Exchange 2003 we could install management tools onXPto manage Exchange server remotely.~ You may need to contact Microsoftresellerfor Windows license upgrade query. You may also get assistance in Windows forum on license upgrade...Windows forum:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver/~ I wouldn't say that it is business strategy because they have moved to 64bit platform to use high performance system and to avoid multiple 32bit servers usage due to their limitations on memory addressing... :)Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
