Can DAG on Virtualization be configured on Fibre Channel SAN?
Hello, I plan to deploy Exchange Server 2010 on 2 physical server with Hyper-V enabled. Each Server has 2 vms, one is for mailbox role with DAG and another one is for Hub + CAS with NLB. I found that normally cluster on virtual machine layer need ISCSI storage and cannot be configure on Fibre channel SAN. So, I am not sure whether the DAG can be configure on Fibre Channel SAN or not? My backup plan is to use "Pass Through Disk" if the above solution does not work. Please kindly give me suggestion as above information Regards, U37TCP

A LUN is a LUN is a LUN. The Exchange has absolutely no clue whether it's connected via FC, iSCSI or FCOE. "u37tcp" wrote in message news:e5a2bcfd-0794-425c-9f8d-6cd48aa3fd5c... Hello Mark Arnold, I would like to ensure I understand correctly you mean I can setup the environment by having each Server has 2 vms, one is for mailbox role with DAG and another one is for Hub + CAS with NLB. And for the DAG on VM can work properly with the storage as you mentioned (FC, ISCSI or FCOE). Am I right? Note: I ask this question because clustering on VM layer only need "ISCSI" (cannot FC) and I guess that DAG built on cluster service. That's why I ask this question.

The DAG is just a copy of the database. That database sits on a LUN. That LUN is connected however it's connected. Who is telling you that you cannot FC? Is it that your SAN is some Dell/EQ array that doesn't /do/ FC or that you've got some platform that doesn't /do/ iSCSI? Either way you're over-thinking this. It's a LUN. Put your database copies on the LUN and stop thinking beyond that point. Now, if you intend to put the EDB in a VMDK and access that over any protocol (including NFS) be aware that you're not supported.
