Can't open individual events in outlook 2013 since migrating to office 365.

I have two users who have the exact same issue but its not 100% reproducible. The event is pretty much any multi-person reoccurring appointment.  When the person wants to open the individual occurrence not the reoccurring event to decline that weeks meeting they get the message:

"Sorry, we're having trouble opening this item.  This could be temporary, but if you see it again you might want to restart Outlook.  You changed one of the recurrences of this item, and this instance no longer exists.  Close any open items and try again."

That same user can sign into a different computer and the error moves with them.  I have tried running an online repair and rebuilding the outlook profile.  Also on the machine they are using I have disabled cache mode and that didn't resolve the problem either.

Hi,

Does this issue continue if we start Outlook in safe mode? To verify this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type outlook /safe and press Enter. If the problem would be gone in safe mode, then, restart Outlook in normal mode and go to File > Options > Add-ins, and then disable suspicious add-ins to fix the issue.

Is the recurring appointment in a shared calendar or in users' own calendar? If it's in a shared calendar, please note that the user need at least Editor permission to edit an individual occurrence of a recurring meeting. If this is the case, please try giving the users Editor permission on the shared calendar and then test the issue again.

I have tried in safe mode.  Issue still exists.

This is the user's personal calendar.  The event does up in webmail so I think it is a bug inside of outlook.  I have tried running the calendar repair tool which that didn't find anything wrong with the events.

For your users, were their mailboxes created in Exchange Online or were they migrated to Office 365 after being hosted on-premise?

I also have a user experiencing this exact same issue. It only involves recurring meetings with other attendees which the user scheduled. The only other common theme I've found is the affected meetings were those she scheduled prior to the mailbox being migrated to Exchange Online. I can schedule a new recurring series and then successfully edit various individual instances without any problems. In my case, I believe the issue may be caused by some sort of corruption as result of the migration to Exchange Online. Only "solution" for my case is to cancel the corrupted series and reschedule. Admittedly, not an ideal fix.

Details about my user's scenario: Mailbox is in Exchange Online, using Outlook 2013 on Win7 Pro. I can duplicate it from any machine; the Outlook profile can be in online or cached mode and still occurs.

[edit]I did start noticing the possible corruption happening on recurring events in which my affected user was an attendee and not the host, so it may not just be events in which the user is the organizer [/edit]

That sounds exactly like the issue my user is having.  The event was created before migrating to exchange online.  The bizarre part is its not every event that is old or every user.  But I'll let him know.

We have well over a couple thousand mailboxes which have been migrated to Exchange Online. Only a handful have reported any sort of calendar issues. However, this is the first time I've seen the error message you (and I) are seeing. In the one particular user I'm looking at currently, I have managed to find one event which was scheduled prior to migration which is not throwing the error message when I open an individual occurrence in the series.

Hi,

Have you had any luck in tracking this down or getting it resolved? We're seeing the same issue.

I also have a user having this exact same problem. On Office 365 and the meeting series is from an external user. She can open the series as a whole but not individual events (she gets the "Sorry..." message listed above). Tried all the usual Outlook troubleshooting stuff (most of which is listed above) and no success. Any other ideas would be helpful.

We have had to delete the offending event and have the organizer resetup the event. It's not a good fix but for the very few we have had and the hours of research I have done nothing fixes it and for 2000+ mailboxes and having two people with the issue I can't blame office 365. Events do get corrupted.
