Can't login to Windows Live in OneNote
Hi,
I have troubles logging into my Windows Live ID account in OneNote 2010 (64bit, Windows 7 64bit). I can log into my SkyDrive in browser with no problems, but it OneNote, it is always "contacting server" and then it reprompts.
Can you help me, please?
Best regards,
Michal

I reseted all the settings in IE8, then I turned off the firewall and still it didn't work. I recorded it so you can see it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cepqymaukqg017h/onenote.mp4
If you'll consider it necessary, I can show the firewall and IE settings in the video as well.
Thanks for you help,
Michal

Exact same issue.
How come no follow up for 3 months Rex? You call that support? Do your job.
I've disabled firewall and reset IE 9 settings under connections and then did the full reset under advanced settings.
I've performed a repair and then a full remove, reboot, install of Office 2010.
I have no issues signing in with my MS account anywhere else, including Skydrive website or desktop application.
How about you just admit that OneNote is a buggy POS and you'll make up for it with a copy of 2013 for free that doesn't appear to have the same issues?
I notice from daffiX's video that they are also using a non "microsoft email" MS account - ie my logon is a @gmail. Coincidence?

I have the exact same problem and using an @gmail logon. No error, just says "contacting server" and then re-prompts. If anybody has information on how to fix this error it would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on this for quite a while and I know
it's not the firewall or anything to do with my specific program version or OS. Clean install of windows and clean install of office. It's almost been a year since anybody posted to this question but people are still using this version of OneNote. Help please...

Having similar issue. New ASUS Transformer T100TA. Windows 8.1. Office Home and Student 2013. Excel and Word have no issues uploading\connecting to Skydrive. Open OneNote and it prompts to verify my account. Type in password, click ok, opens Skydrive in
another Window pane. Type in password again and I get a screen "to continue, please read and sign Skydrive terms of use" (which i have already done)OneNote is still prompting for password. Just stuck in this loop between entering Microsoft credentials and
that I have to agree to terms of use . I also am using an @gmail account for my identity.

I am also experiencing this problem, I too have a gmail account based Live login.
I beginning to think it is indeed a buggy POS as suggested by Alister Wade.
I'll have to contact support to see what they say.

I'm also having problems with Win7 64bit OneNote(ON)-desktop sync to ONweb which works fine. Did you get any response from support re your problems? Is it perhaps
- google deliberately frustrating MS and its products
- MS poor coding
and should I try to create a MS Hotmail identity and sign-in for the thing to work

Hello - Is anyone here using two-step authentication? Per everyone's and MS's suggestions, after going through all the gyrations of updating ON 2010, clearing out IE, adding an Outlook.com email address for logging in (none of which worked), I then
turned off my Windows Live two-step authentication. Windows Live through OneNote immediately started working and syncing commenced.
Meanwhile, kind of defeats the purpose of two-step authentication, doesn't it? Any fixes for this Microsoft?

I was experiencing the same issue with ON 2010 not syncing and my Windows Live password would not work.
After reading your post I remembered that it stopped working about the same time I initiated two factor authentication.
I went back in to my SkyDrive and changed my settings to turn off two factor authentication and like magic, ON will now sync.
Thank you for your post! I would have likely lost two months of work without your suggestion.

I think this is the answer....
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/app-passwords-two-step-verification
Apparently you need to set up an app password for Office 2010

I had the same problem and tried everything listed in this forum. Since this issue hasn't been listed as being resolved I would like to offer my input. You may have uninstalled some Windows Live feature necessary for logging in for OneNote. My other MS
Office products were linked to OneDrive but not OneNote for some reason. I reinstalled Windows Live Essentials (just the bare minimum) and then tried opening it OneNote again. It signed in easily.

Not sure if this will be helpful, but I was having issues syncing with my online notebooks in OneNote and it wouldn't connect from my PC, but would from my iPad. I had to turn off my antivirus temporarily (Kaspersky) and then it syncs just fine. Antivirus
could be what is blocking the authentication with Windows Live. I haven't found a way yet to unblock it within Kaspersky.

If you have 2-step verification turned on, all you have to do is go into whichever email address you want to use <Google, live, hotmail etc> and get an app password. It will generate one for you. I use @live account and had the same issues
that led me to this thread.
Login to email address. Go to account settings>Security & Password>App Passwords>Create a new app password==copy and paste into OneNote password with said email address. viola!
Good day folks.

I had the same issue with OneNote 2010 once I activated two-factor authentication on my Windows Live account. Couldn't get OneNote to sync. Creating an app password and following the MS instructions for inputting the app password into OneNote wouldn't
work. OneNote would not sync unless I turned off the two-factor.
Downloading and installing the full Microsoft Live Essentials package and then putting my app password into Windows Live Essentials and logging in that way solved the issue. Two-factor is still on and OneNote syncs now.
Good call Jorge Yanez.

Putting an app password into OneNote per the MSFT instructions did not work for me. No matter what I tried, I could not get OneNote 2010 to sync after I turned on two-factor authentication.
Installing the full Windows Live Essentials package per the recommendation above was the only thing that worked.
