Can't get SMTP connectors to work reliably
SBS 2003 + R2 + all presently available Windows Updates
Scenario:
Consolidating multiple ISP POP3 mailboxesinto one OWA site
I do NOT have my own domain, just wanted to use POP3 connector to fill local user's mailboxes and use one SMTP connector to send things out.
Taking ONE user as an example:
Email: user@isp.com
Outlook connection info: pop3.isp.com, smtp.isp.com, logon is user@isp.com, password xyzzy
I've set up the Internet Mail SMTP Connector to"forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts"to smtp.isp.com
I've tried Advanced/Outbount Security with Anonymous or Basic Auth (user@isp.com/xyzzy) and in neither case does any email get sent.
I know I'm CLEARLY doing something wrong, I just can't find it. Help?

Oh, and when I say "no mail gets sent", I mean no bounces, nothing. Messages go to the outbox and then instantly to the Sent Items folder.

More data: I've enabled logging and all I see is the EHLO followed by an exit. It seems like the SMTP connector isn't relaying the pending (now up to 9) messages...
