Can't find the organizational unit that you specified. Make sure that you have typed the OU's identity correctly.

Hello,

I recently installed a new Windows Server 2012 R2 environment with Exchange Server 2013.

The following error occurs when i double click a user in the Exchange Admin Center:

Can't find the organizational unit that you specified. Make sure that you have typed the OU's identity correctly.

I know there is already a question about this error, but it differents from my error.

Some things i notice:

  • User Logon name: Name is specified correctly
  • DNS Suffix is missing here. I can not use the drop down menu as it is blanc.

When i click on "More options" i can see the Organizational unit without problems.

If i use the AD to create a new user, go to ECP and create new mailbox to existing user, this works without problems.

I can not update any info on the new or existing users though.

I then get the error:

error

Property expression "Test@" isn't valid. Valid values are: Strings that includes '@', where '@' cannot be the last character

I hope someone can help me on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Update,

When i run Get-UserPrincipalNamesSuffix -OrganizationalUnit "miegrouphq.intra/users" i get back MIEGROUPHQ.intra, so it seems that works.

Hi,

I would like to verify if you use Exchange 2013 SP1 at first. Exchange 2013 SP1 adds Windows Server 2012 R2 as a supported operating system.

From your description, when you double click a user in EAC, an error occurs. When you click "More options", you can see the Organizational unit. I would like to verify if you can edit these users on EAC.

"I cannot update any info on the new or existing users though.", do you mean you can't edit them on EAC, on EMS or both of them?

I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

However, within EAC I am able to create new users and mailboxes. Also am I able to create a new mailbox to a existing user.

In the EMC I am able to edit both existing users and create new users / mailboxes.

I am having the same problem with one user in ECP. I am using Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012.

error

Can't find the organizational unit that you specified. Make sure that you have typed the OU's identity correctly.

When I look at the account it does not show the @domain. All the users in that OU have this problem.

All,

We're have the same problem with "Can't find the organizational unit that you specified..." when opening an existing users in ECP. The user doesn't have the login name domain filled in and you can't edit the user. New users can be created and you can select the same OU which "can't be found". This is a migration from SBS 2008 / Exchange 2007. We don't have any odd characters "V \ /" (if I'm understanding that correctly) in our OUs. So, I'm not sure what the issue is. The AD Structure to the users OU is   Domain.local - MyBusiness - Users - SBSUsers

This is Exchange 2013 CU7 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

Thanks,

Paul

All,

I found the problem after doing additional research. It appears to be a bug in ECP (EAC) relating to SBS.

The default OU for new users in SBS is Domain.local - MyBusiness - Users - SBSUsers. ECP doesn't seem to be able to handle this. Changing the default OU to  Domain.local - Users  eliminated the problem. I used this command on the DC:  redirusr cn=users,DC=Domain,dc=local

Problem solved. I just have to move newly created users into the correct OU after creation.

Regards,

Paul

For anyone else wondering how...this is the solution

http://thelazyadmin.com/2006/07/redirect-new-users-and-computers-to-an-ou/

basically on the DC redircmp "CN=Computers,DC=avps,DC=local" and redirusr "CN=Users,DC=avps,DC=local"

Reboot the exchange server and all is well with the universe.

I am running 2013 CU7 On Exchange 2012. This error is occurring in my child domains. I have the mailbox servers installed the root domain. It sees my users in the child domain - Users container, but no other OUs. If I move the user to another OU, I get the EXACT error that we are seeing here. It shows the OU, but no changes can be made to the user.

I do NOT have SBS and need assistance with this!

Thanks,

Lance
