Can't delete old Public Folders database
We're getting ready to migrate our Exchange 2010 deployment to a DAG topology, so now that we've deployed our first DAG server, our initial non-DAG server needs to be brought down and upgraded. All our mailboxes are moved over to it, OAB generation is on it, it has its own Mailbox and Public Folders databases. The issue now is that I can't delete the Public Folder Database, which is preventing me from bringing down the Mailbox Role in the old server. Going into the Public Folder Management Console, I see the following folders: Default Public Folders - Internet Newsgroups System Public Folders - EFORMS REGISTRY, Events Root, OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK, and SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY. I can't delete any of these folders in PFMC, I've tried migrating them as per this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883.aspx to no success. Any clue as to why this is happening and how to delete these? It's holding up our deployment in a very vulnerable spot.----------- Ron E Biggs Network Administrator Entertainment Studios

If I try to delete Internet Newsgroups (I suspect these are vestigial folders from our 2003 migration), I get the following error, Events Root is similar: -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- Action 'Remove' could not be performed on object 'Internet Newsgroups'. Internet Newsgroups Failed Error: Cannot delete the object '\Internet Newsgroups'. Please make sure that you specified the correct identity and that you have the correct permissions to delete it. Issue a get-publicfolderstatistics -server <server> against the server you want to remove and see what replicas are still homed on it.

Hi, These folders are system folder, then cannot be deleted by design. However, we can let them to be invisible as a workaround. If you do want to delete, then we have to delete the entire public folder store. We may have to delete the public folder store from ADSIedit.msc. Cannot Delete the Internet Newsgroups Public Folder http://support.microsoft.com/kb/174306 By the way, what is the exat error when you try to bring down the old mailbox server? Xiu
