Can't delete messages in queue
I'm having some trouble deleting messages in a few of my queue's. I just started working at this company and we have 1 exchange box running exchange 2003 SP2.Below is an example ofthe message properties ofa message that I can't do anything with through System Manager. In which queue is this mail located? is the recipient one with a mailbox on the server or on the Internet

The messages are hanging out in the outbound SMTP queue for various domains. I have a bunch of emails that are expired and they are still sitting the queue's as well. Thank you, Scott

If messages has expired then they should be deleted autmomatically by Exchange server. possible cause could be that your windows AV is somehow blocking when Exchange wants to delete something from the queue. You must exclude some directories when using Winfows AV on Exchange server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823166/en-us Could also be that the receiving server is using greylisting. Exchange 2003 sometomes has problems with some greylisting implementations, there is fix for this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934709/en-us

Thank you for the links. All the exchange services are stopped each week for a cold backup of the server. I'm going to investigate how the AV software is configured on the server. For the most part the messages that are stuck and aren't expiring are trying to be sent to email address that people entered the address incorrectlly (like upscom instead of ups.com).Thank you,Scott
